Major General (Ret.) Hugh Van Roosen
Vice President, Defense Programs
Major General (Ret.) Hugh Van Roosen brings to 701C LLC a wealth of strategic, operational, and leadership experience from his more than 3 decades in uniform. As Vice President of Defense Programs, he leads the development, execution, and oversight of defense-related initiatives that support U.S. security objectives and international partnerships.
During his U.S. Army service, General Van Roosen held high-impact leadership roles across personnel, institutional, and multinational operations. Among his notable assignments:
- Deputy Chief of Staff (G-1), U.S. Army — responsible for overseeing the Army’s human capital strategy, workforce management, and personnel readiness.
- Deputy Chief of Staff (J-7), Special Operations Command, Europe — leading staff functions and strategic planning for Joint and NATO operations across the European theater, with an emphasis on alliance integration and joint readiness.
- Deputy Military Advisor to the United Nations — playing a pivotal role in shaping alliance policies, enhancing interoperability, and advising on defense cooperation across UN member states.
His breadth of experience includes guiding force transformation, institutional reform, and multinational security programs. He has supported mission planning and execution in both peacetime and crisis environments, advising senior U.S. and partner-nation leaders on force posture, capability development, and the sustainment of partnerships in contested environments.
At 701C, Hugh is charged with advancing the company’s defense portfolio—leading strategic direction, program delivery, and stakeholder engagement. Under his leadership, 701C’s Defense Programs Division will offer mission-aligned, scalable solutions in training, logistics, mission planning, and cross-border security cooperation.
He is a graduate of both the U.S. Army War College and the Command and General Staff College, with advanced studies in national security and strategic leadership.
